Jennifer Barrette: A Life of Creativity and Getting Real

Jennifer Barrette is not an astronaut (though she once dreamed of exploring the stars). Instead, she’s an artist, a creator, and an endlessly curious writer with a knack for middle-grade fiction. Now in her mid-50s, she’s ready to share the wisdom she’s gathered along the way.

Growing up surrounded by books, sketchpads, and paintbrushes, Jennifer developed a lifelong love for creating stories and art. Her early career saw her designing everything from furniture to homes and painting massive murals that brought spaces to life. But when an injury clipped her ladder-climbing wings, Jennifer didn’t stop creating—she pivoted. She began illustrating, which opened the door to editing, and eventually, she discovered her passion for writing books.

A proud mom of four (including twin sons and two daughters), Jennifer lives in Northern California with her Caribbean husband, who doubles as her business partner, and a lively crew of pets—including two Bernese Mountain Dogs.

As the Vice President of Transmedia Entertainment, Jennifer is more than just a writer. She’s a world-builder, shaping stories that leap from page to screen, creating experiences that captivate across platforms. Now, with her Get Real About series, she’s turning her talents to self-help, offering practical tools and heartfelt advice to tackle life’s twists and turns. Under the banner of Get Real About Books, Jennifer’s mission is clear: to empower people with no-nonsense resources that inspire meaningful change. Whether it’s a journal, a planner, or a book brimming with actionable insights, Jennifer’s creations are designed to help real people find real solutions—and maybe even a bit of magic along the way.
