Jennifer Barrette: A Life of Creativity and Getting Real

Last year, I became an Amazon Bestselling Author. This month, I became an award winning Screenwriter. But, at my core, I'm an artist, a creator, and an endlessly curious writer who spent a decade composing wildly imaginative middle-grade fiction and stories for children, including the Grandmarama project, which is built to empower the Grandmas of the world. But once I left my 40s behind, I decided I was ready to share a bit of the wisdom I've gathered along the way, and the Get Real About Life project was born, a self-help series of books, audio books, low content books, and journals. Real stories from real people. Covering topics that matter to the world. Grief. Divorce. Parenting. And more.

Growing up surrounded by books, sketchpads, and paintbrushes, I developed a lifelong love for creating stories and art. My early career and education built around Interior Design, had me designing everything from furniture to homes and painting massive murals that brought spaces to life. But when an injury clipped my ladder-climbing wings, I didn’t stop creating—I pivoted. I began painting on a smaller scale and eventually began illustrating books, which opened the door to editing. Eventually, I discovered my passion (and talent) for creating stories, writing screenplays and books.

A proud mom of four (including twin sons and two daughters), I live in Northern California with my Caribbean husband, who doubles as my business partner, and a lively crew of pets—including two Bernese Mountain Dogs.

As the Vice President of Transmedia Entertainment, I'm more than just a writer. I'm a world-builder, shaping stories that leap from page to screen, creating experiences that captivate across platforms. Now, with my Get Real About series, I'm turning my talents to self-help, offering practical tools and heartfelt advice to tackle life’s twists and turns. Under the banner of Get Real About Books, my mission is clear: to empower people with no-nonsense resources that inspire meaningful change. Whether it’s a journal, a planner, or a book brimming with actionable insights, my creations are designed to help real people find real solutions—and maybe even a bit of magic along the way. And all of this writing, including all of my children's stories, are fueled by my passion for art and painting, which I manage to do "almost" everyday.
